Mr. Braum

You would think that the terrible wait in the drive-through line at Braum's would have upset me.

It did.

BUT--not for long. For you see, after I angrily drove out of line because I was unable to order, I went and parked and then proceeded to go inside to order. It wasn't crowded and there were plenty of workers there so it was strange to me that not only the line outside was slow but also the one inside. Oh well, I thought to myslef, I'm already inside.

While I was waiting in line to order I noticed an old man with a cowboy hat ordering ice cream and joking around with the employees. That was all I noted of him. Then I moved aside so he could walk back to his table. There was some Christmas music playing and as he walked by  he smiled at me and said, "we should be dancing!" I laughed and was a little taken a back because I wasn't sure if he was serious or not. He walked on so I figured he was kidding.

As he took his seat, a waitress came up to him and said, "Hi Mr. Braum, how are you?" Then it hit me. He knew everybody who worked with because he was the Mr. Braum. I was literally giddy. Mr. Braum had talked to me! What impressed me even more, though, was just how geniune the old man was.

They say men of that age were different. At a dance I once attended, a World War II veteran spoke. The difference between the people now and the people then is--quite honestly--saddening. The Greatest Generation still has some souls to learn from here on earth, and I plan to drink up as much of them as I can.

Blessings,
Ryleigh
