Red Dawn Movie Review ** Spoiler Alert!
This weekend I went with my three best friends to see the movie 'Red Dawn' which was based on the original motion picture made previously featuring Patrick Swayze (M*A*S*H) and Charlie Sheen (Wall Street) in 1984.
May I just say that this was a really good movie--good enough to buy and watch again and not just for the stunning cast it portrays.
Chris Hemsworth (Thor, The Avengers) plays one of two brother characters along with Josh Peck (Drake and Josh, Ice Age: The Meltdown). I was already aware of Hemsworth's amazing acting skills from watching his previous films, but I was really surprised to see the depth of emotion Peck was able to bring to his character as I had only seen him in the Nick comedy of Drake and Josh (in which he plays Josh alongside Drake Bell).
The other actors featured in this film include one of my favorites: Josh Hutcherson (Hunger Games, RV) who was ridiculously funny.
Speaking of funny, here comes another surprise element of the film: humor.
**One scene in particular features Hutcherson and Connor Cruise (Seven Pounds) robbing a Subway restaurant for rations. Hutcherson jumped up on the table, all bank-robbery style with his automatic, and yells, "Sand-which artist! Fill up this bag with bread!" All the while Cruise sticks a bucket under the soda fountain and fills the entire thing up!
While this film had a point on family matters and those people love, I believe the main focus of this film was patriotism. It forced the audience to ask the question: what would I do if America was seized? Would I fight?
And as for many of us (and me and my friends' case), it inspired the initiative to begin working out. P90X, baby! Because, hey--there was a whole lot of running in that movie.
Blessings,
Ryleigh
